TEL to Start Sales of Data Security Products that Monitor and Block Unauthorized Access to Web Applications and Databases

Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL; Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kiyoshi Sato) has entered into a distribution agreement with Imperva, Inc. (Head Office: Foster City, California, U.S.A.; President & CEO: Shlomo Kramer) to market the latter's SecureSphere data security products in Japan. Sales will begin on July 4, 2006.

Imperva's SecureSphere data security products, which are appliances to be installed on networks, are designed to monitor and block internal and external unauthorized access to and operation of sensitive information saved in data centers, such as customer and settlement information.

SecureSphere products protect corporate Web sites that facilitate e-commerce and other transactions against attacks such as SQL injectionswhich allows information on a database to be accessed by entering a false command that causes an application to malfunctionor cross-site scripting. They also protect important data on database servers, such as on intranets, from being leaked by detecting and blocking the release of data through either improper access to servers or misuse of authorized access by internal users.

The four SecureSphere products are as follows:

SecureSphere Web Application Firewall (WAF) Protects Web applications.

SecureSphere Database Security Gateway (DSG) Monitors SQL queries made on databases and blocks unauthorized access to databases.

SecureSphere Database Monitoring Gateway (DMG) Monitors SQL queries made on databases.

SecureSphere MX Management Server Performs unified management of multiple appliances and offers reporting functions.

Product features are as follows:

High-precision detection

Extremely precise detection of attacks can be implemented by correlating and comprehensively examining information from positive security (white list) and negative security (black list), and from a variety of detection modules (firewalls, IPS, protocol examination, Web firewalls, Web service firewalls, database firewalls).

No negative effects on the system

Unlike conventional application firewalls, each SecureSphere product enters a network as a bridge, not as a proxy. Not only do the products not require changes to the network configuration or applications, but also they have high processing capabilities (multi-gigabit throughput and up to 16,000 transactions per second).

Reduction of operation workload through minimal configuration

Each SecureSphere product automatically learns the Web applications and database environments it monitors continuously in real-time (dynamic profiling), and automatically creates a policy. In addition to reducing the labor and time for administration, such as adjustments and settings, the products also prevent the administrator from forgetting to alter the policy when changing the application.

Flexible installation

It is not necessary to change the current network or application settings.

Support system

TEL offers maintenance support menus, including maintenance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
