AIST Super Cluster, a cluster computer featuring the top aggregate computing performance in Japan, began operations in May 2004. SGI SAN Server S600™ from SGI Japan, Limited. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Norio Izumi) was delivered as its storage system. Designed for use in storage area network (SAN) environments, ADIC's Scalar i2000 provides highly reliable backup processing at high speeds. Employing a housing with a 19-inch rack size enables efficient space arrangement for a group of racks for AIST Super Cluster in the data center and measures for earthquake resistance. TEL focused on SANs at an early date, first offering fiber channel fabric switches from Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. in 1997. TEL has also been making efforts to offer comprehensive SAN solutions, as exemplified by its April 2004 launch in Japan of tape library products from Advanced Digital Information Corp. (ADIC), which enjoys top global share of the open tape library market. Features of ADIC's Scalar i2000
