Tokyo Electron Limited Receives Intel's Prestigious Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement Award

AUSTIN, Texas -- Tokyo Electron Limited was named a recipient of Intel Corporation's prestigious 2003 Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI) award, Intel's highest honor for its suppliers, for outstanding commitment to quality and performance by suppliers that provide products and services deemed essential to Intel's success. The company was given the award for its efforts in supplying Intel with semiconductor capital equipment. Tokyo Electron Limited and 15 additional SCQI award winners will be honored at a celebration in Burlingame, Calif., on March 23.

"I am thrilled that TEL was selected by Intel to receive their esteemed SCQI Award for the 4th consecutive year," said Kiyoshi (Ken) Sato, president & chief executive officer, Tokyo Electron Limited. "The hard work and dedication of TEL employees worldwide has enabled us to meet the level of performance required to win this honored award again. Although it is always possible to continuously improve quality, each year it becomes more difficult to raise the bar further in TEL's four business lines currently doing business with Intel. Still, we look forward to exceeding Intel's expectations in 2004 to hopefully win the coveted SCQI Award again next year. On behalf of TEL and all of our employees worldwide, I would like to thank Intel for challenging TEL to become a better company."

"Congratulations to TEL for winning Intel's highest supplier quality award, SCQI, for the fourth consecutive year," said Peter Silverman, Intel director, Lithography Capital Equipment Development. "This tremendous achievement is a result of TEL's continued focus on operational excellence, new technology integration, broad-based cost reduction, and customer satisfaction. We recognize the commitment and diligent work from TEL across multiple technical areas including Coater/Developers, Etchers, Probers, and Diffusion Furnaces. Intel looks forward to working with TEL in 2004 as we expand business opportunities and raise expectations for future success."

The SCQI awards are part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement process, which encourages Intel's key suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. To quality for SCQI status, suppliers must score at least 95 percent on a report card that assesses performance and ability to meet cost, quality, availability, delivery, technology and responsiveness goals. Intel also will recognize SCQI award winners with an advertisement in the U.S., Europe and Asian editions of the Wall Street Journal.
